Apply for Aid
Undergraduate California resident students may be eligible for a Cal Grant. In addition to filing the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application, a Grade Point Average (GPA) Verification Form must also be submitted by your certifying school to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by March 4, 2024 so that you will be considered for a 2024-25 Cal Grant. For more information about Cal Grants, please review our Cal Grant Frequently Asked Questions page or CSAC’s Cal Grant Frequently Asked Questions page.
The Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office is committed to providing students and parents with the resources they need to make a Berkeley education an affordable reality.
Undergraduate Students
- U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens who wish to be considered for financial aid are required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). UC Berkeley’s federal school code is 001312.
- Undergraduate students who qualify for an AB 540 nonresident tuition exemption may be eligible for Berkeley Undergraduate Dream Act Aid. Students who wish to be considered for Berkeley Undergraduate Dream Act aid can complete the California Dream Act Application.
The FAFSA and the California Dream Act Application have a priority deadline of May 2, 2024 for the 2024-25 academic year.
The FAFSA and California Dream Act Application are used to determine aid eligibility for the specific academic year (fall, spring, and summer term) for which the application is completed. The aid application needs to be completed for each academic year that you wish to apply for aid.
The priority deadline for the 2024-25 academic year (fall 2024, spring 2025, summer 2025) is May 2, 2024. If you file after May 2, 2024 some types of financial aid may be limited.
Graduate Students
- Graduate students interested using Federal Loans and/or Federal work-study to help fund their education should complete the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-25 year.
- Graduate students who qualify for the AB540 nonresident tuition exemption may be eligible for the California Dream Loan and work-study. Graduate students who wish to be considered for Graduate Dream Act aid can complete the California Dream Act Application.
- Graduate students interested in applying for fellowships, teaching and research appointments, and departmental awards, are advised to contact their academic department or the Graduate Division.
Financial Aid For Summer 2024
Summer Financial Aid is available to eligible for continuing and admitted UC Berkeley students enrolled in at least six (6) units in Summer Session.
For continuing students enrolled in a minimum of 6 units, there is no separate application needed to apply for summer financial aid and Summer awarding will begin in spring 2024. You can view and accept/decline your summer awards in CalCentral once awarding begins.
For newly admitted Fall students, you must be enrolled in 6 or more Summer Session units and have submitted a 2023-24 FAFSA or California Dream Application by June 1, 2024 (but no later than June 30, 2024). Once awarding begins, you can view and accept/decline your summer awards in CalCentral.
Visit our Summer Financial Aid website for more information about how to apply and receive financial aid for summer. Students may also use the Summer Cost and Aid Estimator, available on Cal Central under the “Summer Sessions” section of “My Dashboard”, to receive an estimate of the costs and aid eligibility for Summer enrollment.
