Apply to Graduate Programs in Education

We are pleased to announce that the admissions portal is now officially open for the Department of Education Secondary Education MA Program for subject area concentrations in English, Social Studies, and Mathematics.

This MA program is designed for candidates interested in pursuing teaching and related professions after completing a baccalaureate degree with significant subject area coursework. The program coursework , practicum field experiences, and student teaching internship are designed to prepare candidates to serve in a variety of educational contexts. Upon successful program completion, candidates are also eligible to apply for a Standard Teaching Credential (license) from the Office of the State Superintendent of DC (OSSE). Formal Application:
An application indicating a desire to pursue a Master's degree in Secondary Education with a specialization in one of the following content areas: English, Mathematics or Social Studies. Link to Catholic University Graduate Application Portal

Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work.

• Transcript Analysis will be completed by content area. Must meet the requirements for compliance with the relevant accreditation body for credentialing.
• Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in their undergraduate studies.
• All applicants for graduate studies must have a minimum of 3.0 in their previous graduate coursework if applicable.

• Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from a person familiar with the applicant's academic performance; others may be from an immediate supervisor or someone familiar with the applicant's professional work.

• Applicant's statement of goals that is well written, demonstrates motivation, and gives evidence that the applicant's goals fit with the chosen program.

• An interview with a panel of the following is required prior to acceptance:
  • Department Chair
  • Program Coordinator
  • One additional Education or Content Area Faculty Member

  International Applicants
  International applicants seeking admission to one of the Department of Education's graduate programs must meet the following admission requirements:

  Formal Application:

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (on a 4-point scale) in their undergraduate studies.
  • All applicants for graduate studies must have a minimum of 3.0 in their previous graduate coursework if applicable.
  • All international candidates must submit TOEFL or ILETS scores that meet University standards.
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from a person familiar with the applicant's academic performance; others may be from an immediate supervisor or someone familiar with the applicant's professional work.
  • Applicant's statement of goals that is well written, demonstrates motivation, and gives evidence that the applicant's goals fit with the chosen program.
  • An interview with a panel of the following is required prior to acceptance:
    • Department Chair
    • Program Coordinator
    • One additional Education or Content Area Faculty Member
