Common Sense Media CEO and Founder Jim Steyer issued the following statement today in support of the new bi-partisan federal Student Digital Privacy and Parental Rights Act to be introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Jared Polis and Rep. Luke Messer:
"Student privacy is now a major priority in Washington, D.C. and in states nationwide, and Common Sense Media is working hard to ensure that legislation puts the interests of kids first. Congressmen Messer and Polis have consulted with Common Sense Media and we applaud the Congressmen for recognizing that an industry pledge is simply not enough and that we need strong and clear legislation to help protect the sensitive personal information of students. The federal bill is moving in the right direction, closer to California's landmark student privacy bill with some of its critical protections for student privacy. We look forward to continuing to work productively with the Congress to strengthen the bill even further as it moves through the legislative process."
